Day Off
Well, for me having a day off isn’t wholly unlike any other day during the week because I’m only at school for a few hours a day–it’s not quite so dramatic as when I was working full-time. But the great thing is that Drew was off which means that we got to go on a date, taking advantage of the extra
day of leisure.
So, with his in-exhaustive craving for chicken katsu curry (above) and my overall eagerness to go anywhere outside of the house (quite stir-crazy), where else would we go than to the one of our favorite spots–Japantown, of course. The curry was fabulous, topped off with a wonderful
crepe (sorry mom, no green tea ice cream, this time–next time I’m going to have one in a crepe though drizzled with chocolate sauce… yum); they finally had my chocolate filled green-tea rice cakes (Maccha no Choco Daifuku) at Nippon Ya (yay!). In fact, the whole day seemed oriented around food in some way–botan rice candy at Ichiban Kana, stocking up on some cheap groceries at the Asian market, even stopping by Muerillos on the way home so that Drew could complete his culinary desires by ordering a chimichanga (sp). All this today while
in the midst of talking how we are going to start eating better–starting tomorrow, that is. For today–today was a holiday. A sweet (very sweet at times) holiday away from the cares of discernment–yes, bring on the fried food and chocolate and candy–it is a glorious thing.
Overall we just had a great time with each other no matter what store we went into. It was one of those wonderful re-connective times you have w/your significant other from time to time. I did get my desired toilet-seat warmer thing–you know, for the actual toilet seat, not the lid: it’s cooolldd in our little house! My fanny gets chilly. I was able to find a nifty jade bracelet too, and some cool Hokusai wave toe-socks for Greg.
Yes, it was a wonderful day indeed. I couldn’t ask for a better way to spend the holiday–even if it had nothing to do with an American president in any way, shape, or form. Call us unpatriotic, I suppose, but I’m lumping this holiday in with the 4th of July. Sounds good to me.
